CU Men's Hoops Drops 70-62 Decision at RIT

Rochester, NY - Down by just a point with less than five minutes to go, the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team fould itself on the wrong end of a 9-0 run and fell 70-62 against RIT on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss the Golden Knights fell to 8-15 overall and 5-9 in the Liberty League and the team was officially eliminated from the conference playoff race. RIT improved to 12-11 overall and 8-6 in the Liberty League. Clarkson will close out the regular season against St. Lawrence and Skidmore, with the latter game coming on Friday at Alumni Gymnasium.

In the early going, Clarkson fell behind by seven (13-6), but in the next 10 minutes the Knights pulled back to within one or two points on seven occasions. Clarkson finally completed its comeback by taking the lead at the 7:16 mark and extended its advantage to five points at the 4:44 mark (35-30). However, the Tigers scored 10 straight before Liam Ellis could halt the run with a last second layup.

The Tigers carried the momentum into the second half, pushing their lead to double digits on a 3-pointer from Mitch Herman at the 14:21 mark. The RIT lead maxed out at 12 points at the 13:50 mark, but Clarkson clawed its way back with a 14-3 run that pulled the Knights within one point (61-60) after a pair of Drew Zlogar free throws. That was as close as Clarkson would get though as the team went cold on offense, going 0-for-10 from the field in a four-minute stretch. RIT used that time to rattle off nine straight points to regain its double-digit advantage, with Ellis hitting a layup on Clarkson's final possession to get the Knights back within eight points at the buzzer.

Felix Abongo led Clarkson with a solid all-around effort, scorign 12 points with eight rebounds and seven assists. Conrad Zampier had a team-high 13 points, while Drew Zlogar contributed 12 points and eight boards. For RIT, AJ Horde produced 18 points, five boards and seven assists.
