Clarkson Men's Hockey Wins 4th Straight behind Strong Outing by Freshman Class

Clarkson University Men's Hockey's Class of 2020 came through in a big way on Friday night at Cheel Arena, helping the Golden Knights earn a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Brown for the Green and Gold's fourth straight win.

Freshman Devin Brosseau scored two goals, while classmate Haralds Egle tallied the game-winner. Reigning ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week, rookie Jake Kielly posted 26 saves to backstop Clarkson's second consecutive win at home.

In a fast-paced first period Clarkson grabbed the lead late in the stanza with a pair of freshmen combining for the game's first goal. Nico Sturm, who earned ECAC Hockey Rookie honors this week, picked up a loose puck at his own blueline and skated in on a 2-on-1 with Brosseau. Brosseau took a cross-ice pass from Sturm at the left circle and fired in his second goal of the season with 21 seconds left in the period.

Brown (1-6, 1-4), benefiting from three straight power-play opportunities, controlled play in the middle frame and evened the score when the Bears' leading scorer
Charlie Corcoran tallied at 9:33.

The Knights went back on top midway through the final frame when Brosseau took a behind-the-net pass from Sturm and connected in front for a power-play marker at 12:44. Freshman linemate Sheldon Rempal also assisted.

The Bears continued to play tough and tied it once again on Tim Lappin's score at 15:19.

Just 28 seconds later, however, Clarkson regained the lead as Egle's took a pass from junior defenseman Kelly Summers and scored in front for his third goal of the season and the game-winner. Senior Troy Josephs started the play, stealing the puck at center ice.

Brown outshot the Knights 28-24. Tim Ernst made 21 saves for the Bears.

Clarkson was 1-of-5 on the power play and killed off all six of Brown's man-advantage chances.
