CU Men's Soccer Preview - at Hobart (10/8)

With four teams tied for the last two Liberty League playoff spots, the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team has a chance to move closer to the postseason as the Golden Knights travel to Hobart for a game on Saturday.

Clarkson is 5-3-2 overall this season and is 1-1-1 in the Liberty League. The greatest strength for the Green and Gold has been their defense. Led by senior goalkeeper Michael King, Clarkson has allowed just five goals all season, the best mark in the Liberty League and the 13th best in the country. King leads the conference in goals against average (.473), shutouts (6), saves (47), and save percentage (.904). King is also fourth in the country in save percentage and 17th in goals against average.

On offense, Kevin Calnan and Aiden Subra were the standouts last weekend. Calnan scored his third goal of the season with Eric Herberger getting the assist in Clarkson's 2-1 loss to Vassar. The Golden Knights bounced back with a 2-0 win over Bard thanks to the first multi-point game of Subra's collegiate career. Subra scored the opening goal off a backheel pass from Calnan and then added an assist on Drew Lewis' goal late in the game. Calnan now has 10 points on the season, the first time in his career he has reached double digit points in a season. Calnan is tied for fourth in the conference in points and assists.

Hobart has a 4-4-3 overall record and the Statesmen are 1-1-1 in the conference. After starting the season 0-3-1, Hobart has lost just once in its last seven games, including a 1-0 win over then fifth-ranked St. Lawrence. Defensively, Hobart has struggled with the Statesmen giving up 14 goals this season, the highest total in the Liberty League. Clarkson has an all-time record of 34-23-5 against Hobart, but has lost four games in a row against the Statesmen.

The two teams will kickoff at 2:00 pm on Saturday afternoon.
