Led by ninth-year head coach Matt Desrosiers and assistant coaches Britni Smith and Tony Maci, the Golden Knights swept Penn State at home last weekend to start the season 2-0 for the second consecutive year. Clarkson is now unbeaten in 12 straight games in Cheel Arena, with the last loss coming to Colgate on December 4th, 2015.

Against Penn State, Clarkson had six different players score. In a 4-2 win on Friday night, seniors Corie Jacobson and assistant captain Genevieve Bannon were joined on the scoresheet by sophomore Rhyen McGill and freshman Michaela Pejzlová. Senior captain Cayley Mercer and sophomore Josiane Pozzebon scored the two goals in Clarkson's 2-1 win on Saturday afternoon.

Both Mercer and Bannon are closing in on career milestones. Bannon added an assist to go along with her goal against the Nittany Lions and is now just one point away from 100 for her career. She will become the 11th Clarkson player to reach the century club. Mercer also had an assist to give her two points so far this season. She now has 118 career points which ties her with Juana Baribeau '12 for sixth on the Clarkson all-time scoring list. Mercer also tied her older sister Carly Mercer '14 for fifth all-time with 53 goals scored.

Also climbing up the career leaderboards is junior goaltender Shea Tiley. Tiley made 13 and 24 saves in the two wins, earning her 52nd and 53rd career wins. That total is second all-time at Clarkson, trailing just Erica Howe '14 who graduated with 90 victories. Tiley's career save percentage of .935 and goals against average of 1.39 are the best among Clarkson goaltenders with at least  10 games played while she is fourth all-time with 18 career shutouts.

After scoring a combined 47 goals and adding 52 assists in the 2015-16 season, the six player sophomore class continued to be heavy contributors on the offensive end against Penn State. McGill and Pozzebon both had a goal and an assist while Loren Gabel added an assist. Gabel and Kelly Mariani are the two Clarkson players with the highest shot totals amongst the skaters without a goal as Gabel has taken 10 shots while Mariani has notched five.

Among the newcomers, Pejzlová and Ella Shelton had the biggest impact on the scoresheet against the Nittany Lions. Pejzlová scored a goal in her debut game while Shelton added an assist in both of the victories. Taylor Turnquist was the other freshman who saw time on the ice against Penn State.

St. Lawrence also started its season with two victories, although the Saints earned the wins on the road. St. Lawrence started the season with a dominating 5-0 win at Northeastern before a goal with just 19 seconds remaining helped the Saints escape with a 6-5 win over the Huskies. Kennedy Marchment leads the team with seven points on one goal and six assists while Hannah Miller is right behind her with two goals and four assists for six points. Marchment is first in the nation in points per game while Miller is tied for second and Brooke Webster is tied for fifth as Webster already has five points. The trio has helped lead the Saints to the number one offense in the country so far.

Clarkson has an all-time record of 20-17-5 against the Saints. However recently, Clarkson has dominated the series as the Golden Knights are unbeaten in the last seven meetings, going 6-0-1 in the span. Mercer and Bannon are the career offensive leaders against St. Lawrence with 15 and 10 points respectively.
