The Knights are riding high after gaining a tie and a win against two Top-15 ranked Hockey East opponents in New England over the weekend. The Green and Gold skated to a 3-3 draw with 15th-ranked Providence in Rhode Island on Friday and then came-from-behind to take down 5th-ranked UMass-Lowell 4-3 on Saturday, handing the River Hawks their first loss of the season. Clarkson stands at 3-2-1 overall.

•    Two traditional NCAA powerhouses, Clarkson and Minnesota have faced off against each other only three times with the Gophers skating away with the victory each time.  All three games have come in the NCAA Tournament. Minnesota will be playing it s first ever game in Potsdam.
•    Clarkson has won the last three meetings and is unbeaten in the last four games against the Badgers to cut Wisconsin's lead in the all-time series to one game, at 4-3-2. In their last meeting, the Knights defeated Wisconsin 6-2 in the opening round of the Badger Showdown in Madison, WI on December 29, 2006. Wisconsin has played four games in Potsdam, all in the postseason at Walker Arena. The Badgers won the 1981 NCAA total-goal series (3-2, 6-6) and lost the 1991 NCAA first-round series (8-3, 5-4).
•    Clarkson extended its unbeaten streak against Providence to four games (3-0-1) with the tie on Friday. The Knights twice overcame one-goal deficits and took the lead early in the third period before the Friars evened the score with their third power-play goal of the game late in regulation. Clarkson killed off 7-of-10 Providence power plays, while only skating on four man-advantages (1-4).
•    The Green and Gold rallied for one of their biggest wins in recent years on Saturday, scoring four of the final five goals to snap a 10-game winless skid (0-9-1) to UMass-Lowell. Clarkson trailed 2-0 in the first period before taking control in the middle frame en route to its first win ever at the Tsongas Center (1-4-1).
• Clarkson went 3-2-1 against Hockey East foes to start the 2016-17 campaign. In the previous five seasons the Knights went a combined 2-15-1 against teams from Hockey East. Clarkson has potentially two games remaining against Hockey East competition. The Knights play at Northeastern on December 30 and have a possible match-up against Notre Dame on the second day of the Shillelagh Tournament in South Bend, IN on November 26.
• Freshman goaltender Jake Kielly continues to impress in the Clarkson crease and played a key role in the Knights' success over the weekend on the road against two Top-15 ranked teams. Kielly was named ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week. He posted a career-high 43 saves, including 20 in the third period in the 3-3 draw at #15 Providence and did not allow the Friars to score an even-strength goal. Kielly followed with 28 saves in the 4-3 come-from-behind win at #5 UMass-Lowell, including 14 in the first period to keep the Knights in the game. He allowed just two even-strength goals on the weekend. Kielly, who has started all six games, holds a .909 save percentage and a 2.81 goals against average.
• Balance and Depth. Seven different Golden Knights accounted for Clarkson's seven goals over the weekend, including four players who all tallied their first career goals. Thirteen Clarkson players recorded at least one point.
• In the 3-3 tie at Providence, freshmen Jordan Schneider and Sheldon Rempal and junior Tyko Karjalainen all scored their first career goals.
• Schneider's goal was a shorthanded marker, Clarkson's third of the year. The Knights combined for just two shorthanded goals in the previous three seasons combined. The program record is 18 shorthanded goals in a season, set in 1979-80.
• Freshman Devin Brosseau also put up his first goal as a Golden Knight to start the rally at UMass-Lowell. Brosseau, who was named ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week for October 18, shares the Clarkson point lead with junior Sam Vigneault at five (1-4).
• Three of Clarkson's seven goals over the weekend came from defensemen. Along with Karjalainen and Schneider's goals, senior captain James de Haas also tallied from the blueline. de Haas connected for his fourth career game-winner and first goal of the season in the one-goal victory at Providence. de Haas is the Knights' scoring leader among defensemen with four points (1-3). He is also Clarkson's current career scoring leader with 49 points (18-31) through 118 games.
• Seniors Jordan Boucher (1-1), A.J. Fossen (1-1) and Vigneault (0-2) were the only Clarkson players with multiple-point games as both tallied two points in the win over UMass-Lowell. Juniors Brett Gervais and Nic Pierog recorded an assist in each game.
• Clarkson is fourth in the NCAA in penalties minutes, averaging 23.83 minutes a game. The Knights have killed off 84.8% of opponents' power plays and are tied for third in the country with three shorthanded goals.
• The Knights enjoyed their best night of the young season on the power play in the win at UMass-Lowell, converting two-of-four chances. Through the first six games Clarkson is 6-of-38 on the power play (15.8).
• Senior goaltender Steve Perry dress for the first time this season, but did not play over the weekend. Junior defenseman Terrance Amorosa has not play in the first six games, nursing a minor injury.
• de Haas serves as the Knights' captain. Joining de Haas in leadership roles for Clarkson this season are senior Perry D'Arrisso and juniors Gervais and Pierog, who will serve as assistant captains.
• The Knights are receiving votes (33) in the USCHO.com poll this week, and are picked to finish fourth in the ECAC this year by the league coaches.
•    In its 95th season, Clarkson boasts 71 winning campaigns and a 1,398-837-150 all-time record for a .618 winning % since 1920-21.
•    Clarkson was ranked 15th among the Top 25 College Hockey Programs of All Time by HERO Sports - http://herosports.com/
•    Four current Golden Knights have been selected in the NHL Draft – de Haas (2012 Detroit - 6th rd, 170), Amorosa (2013 Philadelphia - 5th rd, 189), Troy Josephs (2013 Pittsburgh - 7th rd, 209) and Kelly Summers (2014 Ottawa - 7th rd, 189).

Scouting Minnesota
Ranked 12th in the national polls, the Gophers of the University of Minnesota make their first ever trip to the North Country with a 2-2 record. Guided by long-time head coach Don Lucia, Minnesota lost both games of a home-and-home series with Top-10 ranked St. Cloud State last weekend, falling by one goal each night. On Friday in Minneapolis, the Gophers lost in overtime 6-5 and came up just short again on Saturday in a 3-2 loss at St. Cloud.

The Gophers opened the season with a pair of wins in Alaska, defeating Alaska Anchorage 6-0 and Alaska 6-3 on October 7 and 9.
Minnesota boasts one of the top offenses in the country, averaging 4.75 goals per game (2nd in NCAA).

Scouting Wisconsin
A traditional power in the old WCHA, Wisconsin has suffered through some lean years recently in the BIG 10, combining for just 12 wins overall the past two seasons. Under first-year head coach Tony Granato, a former long-time standout in the NHL, the Badgers, with eight NHL Draft choices on the roster, project to be a formidable opponent in 2016-17.

Wisconsin, which plays at St. Lawrence on Friday, owns a 2-2 record. The Badgers have split two season-opening series. Wisconsin lost to Northern Michigan 3-2 to start the season on October 7 before coming back to down the Wildcats 6-5 the next night. On the weekend of October 14-16 in Madison, the Badgers defeated Boston College 3-1 before losing to the Eagles 8-5. This past Friday, Wisconsin edged the USA Under-18 Team 4-3 in exhibition play at the Kohl Center.

Patrick Sexton, a sophomore defenseman and the younger brother of former Clarkson standout Ben Sexton (2010-14), has played two games on the Wisconsin blueline.

The Series:

The Gophers also swept the Knights (6-1, 5-1) at Mariucci Arena in NCAA first-round play on March 16-17, 1990.

Clarkson has won the last three meetings and is unbeaten in the last four series games to cut the Badgers lead in the all-time series to one game, at 4-3-2. In their last meeting, the Knights defeated Wisconsin 6-2 in the opening round of the Badger Showdown in Madison, WI on December 29, 2006. Clarkson swept Wisconsin in the first round of the 1991 NCAA Tournament, winning 8-3 and 5-4 at Walker Arena in Potsdam.
