Knights Drop 79-74 Decision to Skidmore

Saratoga Springs, NY – Down the stretch the Clarkson University Men’s Basketball team shot just 1-for-5 with a turnover while Skidmore grabbed the rebounds and converted free throws as the Golden Knights dropped a 79-74 Liberty League decision Tuesday night.

The Golden Knights fell to 14-7 overall and 7-5 in the Liberty League, while Skidmore improved its league standing to 8-3 and 14-6. Clarkson will look to get back on track with its final home games of the regular season this weekend against Vassar and Bard.

After falling behind in the early going, Clarkson found its groove offensively and led for most of the first half, extending its lead to as many as seven points on two occasions before finally settling at six points at halftime. Clarkson also led throughout most of the second half, with Skidmore coming back on several occasions to tie the game, but the Knights held firm and had the lead as late as the six-minute mark in the second period. Skidmore used a 7-0 run to take a five-point advantage with just over four minutes remaining, but the Knights came back to close the gap to one point following a Tyler Barron (Burlington, VT) free throw with 2:53 remaining. However, after Barron missed his second free throw that would have tied the contest, Clarkson went cold from the field, only receiving a 3-pointer from Jerry Coleman (Potsdam, NY) with under a minute left the rest of the way. Skidmore took advantage by limiting Clarkson’s chances and making key shots when it needed to, holding on for the five-point victory.

Jerry Coleman led the Knights in scoring for the second time in three games, netting 19 points on 6-for-11 shooting overall, including four 3-pointers, while grabbing seven rebounds. Freshman John Coleman (Potsdam, NY) added in 14 points and seven rebounds as well. Sophomore Marques Charlton (Deer Park, NY) scored 12 points and had four assists and three steals, while seniors Felix Llanos (Queens, NY) and Tyler Barron each added in 11 points.

For Skidmore Gerard O’Shea had 15 points and six assists, while John Mantas and Brian Lowry contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively.
