Poughkeepsie, NY - Sophomore guard Keith Murray (Queens, NY) tied his career-high with 20 points and also added in 12 rebounds, but the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team came up short in extra time against Vassar on Saturday, falling 61-55 in overtime in the Liberty League regular season finale.
Clarkson fell to 7-7 in the conference and 9-16 overall, but by virtue of a head-to-head victory over second-place Hamilton, the Golden Knights earned the fourth-seed in the Liberty League tournament over Hobart College. Vassar improved to 18-6 and 9-5, and enters the post-season tournament as the third seed. Clarkson will take on top-seeded St. Lawrence on Friday at 8:00 pm, while the Brewers will face Hamilton at 6:00 pm.
The two teams finished regulation tied up at 51-51, but Vassar won the extra frame 10-4. The Brewers took a 54-53 overtime lead on a free throw by junior forward Joe Davis with three minutes remaining, and after coming with a stop on the defensive end, Vassar moved in front 56-53 with 2:14 to go on a basket by Tyson Brazell who scored five of Vassar’s 10 points in the overtime period. The Brewers secured the victory by hitting five-of-six from the foul line in the final 30 seconds.
