Geneva, NY – A rough shooting performance by the Clarkson University Men’s Basketball team doomed the Golden Knights in a 73-62 loss to Hobart College in Liberty League action Friday night.
The Knights fell to 6-11 overall and dropped to 4-2 in the Liberty League. Hobart improved to 8-9 in its overall schedule, evening the Statesmen’s conference slate at 3-3.
The first half was played even for the first 12 minutes, but Hobart ended the opening period with a 16-5 run, giving Hobart a 30-22 lead at the half. The Statesmen extended their lead to as many as 20 in the second half, but the Knights stormed back to within six in the final two minutes with some 3-pointers. Despite the late barrage, Clarkson was unable to get the lead below six points and finished trailing by 11.
The Knights shot just 27 percent for the floor, out shooting Hobart 77-52 thanks to a solid edge in rebounding (52-35), but Clarkson was unable to take advantage of its numerous opportunities. Keith Murray (Queens, NY) continued his hot streak with 15 points and 8 rebounds, while Brandon Linton (Queens, NY) produced a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Elson Pickering (Brooklyn, NY) contributed 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks, and Ryan Smith (Niagara Falls, NY) added in 10 rebounds and 6 points.
John Grazioli, the leading scorer in the Liberty League, provided a game-high 21 points for the Statesmen. Sean McHugh was flawless from the field, shooting 3-for-3 from beyond the 3-point arc and 4-for-4 from the free throw line for 13 points, and he added 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Robert Estep added 10 points and 9 rebounds, and Tim Llewellyn scored 11 for Hobart.
