Potsdam, NY – Anna Robinson and Sarah Strange each recorded first-half goals as Vassar College downed the Clarkson University Women’s Soccer team 2-0 in Liberty League action Friday afternoon at Clarkson Field.

The Golden Knights dropped to 3-8-2 overall and 0-4 in conference play, while Vassar improved to 8-3-0 and 3-1-0 in the league. Clarkson looks to get back on the winning track tomorrow against Rensselaer in its final home game of the season.

Vassar started the contest in control with the Knights rarely getting the ball over midfield, but it took some time for the Brewers to get on the scoreboard despite several early shots. However, in the 12th minute, Carolyn Demougeot gained control of the ball near the midfield sideline and played a nice pass to the middle to Anna Robinson, who was then able to beat the defense in back for the goal, her third of the season.

After the score, Clarkson’s intensity increased as they matched Vassar’s physical style of play, but the Knights were unable to get any shots on goal.

The Brewers scored again late in the half after earning a corner kick. Allison McManis hit a line drive pass from the corner straight to the head of Sarah Strange, who redirected the ball past Clarkson keeper Caitlin Titus (Dewitt, NY) for the goal.

Titus made six saves for the Knights, while Anne Hutchinson stopped two shots for the shutout for Vassar. The Brewers held a 15-7 lead in shots and a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
