Potsdam, NY - Freshman Brendan Hofler (Glen Gardner, NJ) claimed first in three individual events as the Clarkson University Swim team split its dual meet against Potsdam State, winning the men's meet 136-98 and dropping the women's match up 112-92.
Clarkson will close out the regular season against Utica next weekend before traveling to the state meets in late February.
Hofler was victorious in the 200 freestyle (1:54.29), 500 freestyle (5:19.36) and 100 butterfly (2:12.23) to lead the Knights' charge. Junior Corey Van Woert (Binghamton, NY) also won two events, taking the top place in both the 50 freestyle (23.13) and 100 freestyle (50.87). He also swam on the winning 400 medley relay along with Bob Stevens (Lakewood, NY), Corey Curtis (Erieville, NY) and Matt Ulsh (Rochester, MN) with a time of 3:49.81. Each of those individuals also won single events as Stevens placed first in the 200 backstroke (2:12.80), Ulsh came in first in the 200 individual medley (2:07.96), and Curtis picked up a first-place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.04).
On the women's side, senior Kristen Larsen (Fort Edward, NY), sophomore Laura Shaddak (Oswego, NY) and freshman Nicole Pera (Jamison, PA) all won two individual events. Larsen won the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.77, and came within 15-hundredths of a second of setting a new school mark in the 200 breaststroke with a race time of 2:39.53. Pera won both the 200 individual medley (2:26.33) and 200 backstroke (2:20.36), and Shaddak took first in the 100 freestyle (58.07) and 200 freestyle (2:09.06).
