Saratoga Springs, NY - Trailing by double figures at halftime, the Clarkson University Men's Basketball spent the final 20 minutes outscoring Skidmore 51-29 as the Golden Knights earned a 79-67 Liberty League victory over the Thoroughbreds Friday night.
The Golden Knights improved to 14-10 overall and 5-8 in the conference while Skidmore dropped to 2-21 and 1-12. Clarkson's 14th victory marked the fifth time that the Knights have reached that total in the past 60 years. The Knights end the regular season tomorrow at Union College.
Clarkson struggled in the first half, shooting just 30.3 percent (10-for-33) from the floor, while Skidmore enjoyed a strong first half at 57.7 percent (15-for-26). The second half was a different story as the Golden Knights used a pair of runs to first tie the score and then finish off the Thoroughbreds. Over the final five minutes, the Golden Knights rode a 19-6 run to the win.
Senior Jon Youngmann (Corinth, NY) scored a team-high 21 points, shooting 8-for-13 from the floor, and added five assists to lead the Knights. Sophomores Brian Salanger (Syracuse, NY) and Elson Pickering (Brooklyn, NY) each added 14 points for Clarkson and EJ Harrison (Troy, NY) scored 13 points for the Knights.
