Canton, NY - Freshman Brendan Hofler (Glen Gardner, NJ) won two events and his collegiate debut while junior Steve Ritter (Johnson City, NY) earned a pair of victories in the opening meet of the season for the Clarkson University Swim team against St. Lawrence Friday afternoon.
The Golden Knights dropped the women's meet 116-87 to the Saints and St. Lawrence just squeaked past the men's team, 104-101. Clarkson will compete in the Cortland relays on Saturday afternoon.
Hofler took home first place in both the 200 and 500 freestyle events to lead the Knights. Hofler finished the 200 freestyle race in 1:55.15 and took the 500 freestyle in 5:14.09. Ritter's top showings were in the 100 butterfly (57.48) and 100 breast stroke (105.18), an event in which he tied teammate Corey Curtis (Erieville, NY).
Junior Corey Van Woert (Binghamton, NY) also took home first place in the 100 freestyle for the Knights, winning with a time of 49.92. Freshman newcomer Robert Stevens (Lakewood, NY) claimed the top spot in the 100 back stroke with a time of 57.67.
Only two women were able to pick up individual event victories for the Knights with senior captain Kristen Larsen (Fort Edward, NY) taking first in the 100 breast stroke with a time of 1:13.27, and freshman Nicole Pera (Jamison, PA) coming in first in the 200 individual medley in 2:25.68.
