Geneva, NY - Senior forward Mickala Henson (Waverly, NY) scored 10 points to go along with 7 rebounds and 3 blocks, but the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team dropped a 65-53 decision to William Smith College in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Knights fell to 4-9 overall and 0-2 in the Liberty League with their second straight loss while William Smith evened its conference record at 1-1 and moved to 7-5 overall. The Knights face off against St. Lawrence on Tuesday at Alumni Gymnasium.
In the first three and a half minutes of Saturday's game, the Golden Knights fell behind by 10 and William Smith steadily built its lead to 17 points by the end of the half. Though the Herons extended their lead to over 20 in the second half, the Knights made a strong comeback late in the game to narrow the gap to 12 at the final buzzer.
Henson shot 5-for-10 from the floor for her 10 points, and her three blocks put her within three of tying the school mark set by Kim Brown more than a decade ago. Sophomore Monica Thomas (Sandwich, MA) led all Clarkson scorers with 14 points, including three 3-point field goals. Senior Vanessa Westcott (Parish, NY) also added 11 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals.
Stephanie Czajkowski led all scorers with 18 points, on 8-for-12 shooting, to lead William Smith, also contributing 12 rebounds. Erin Cunningham and Latasha Coney each added 12 points for the Herons. William Smith held a 45-33 edge in rebounds.
