Rochester, NY - Though the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team's lone goal came with only four seconds remaining, the Golden Knights played mostly even with 8th-ranked University of Rochester in a 2-1 loss to the Yellowjackets Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Knights dropped to 0-3-1 overall and return home with a pair of game at Clarkson Field next weekend. Rochester improved to 2-1-1.
Nick Mikolenko scored on a pass from Dominic Pellingra in the 33rd minute when a shot deflected off a Clarkson defender into the net to put the Knights down 1-0. Rochester added a second goal when Tyler Green tallied his fifth score of the season with the assist going to Mikolenko at the 51:34 mark.
Trailing 2-0 for the remainder of the half, the Knights scored one just a little late when Justin Crowley (Central Square, NY) scored on a penalty kick at 89:56.
Clarkson was right with the Yellowjackets in the first half, outshooting Rochester 9-4 and trailing by only one in corner kicks, 5-4. However, Rochester picked up its play in the second half to finish with advantages of 15-11 in shots and 9-4 in corners.
Junior Jonathon Rushing (Paw Paw, MI) made six saves for the Golden Knights while Paco Corbalan stopped four shots for the Yellowjackets.
