VIGANSKY CONTINUES OUTSTANDING PLAY IN LOSS AT UNION

February 11, 2006

Schenectady, NY - Junior forward Erick Vigansky (Kenosha, WI) scored a career-high 22 points, shooting a nearly flawless 8-for-9 from the floor for the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team, but a late run in the second half came up short as Union picked up a 69-63 Liberty League win over the Golden Knights.

The Golden Knights dropped to 5-18 on the season and 2-10 in the Liberty League while Union moved to 14-9 overall and 7-5 in conference. Clarkson closes the regular season next weekend when it hosts Hobart and Hamilton.

Falling behind by as many as 16 points in the first half, the Golden Knights climbed back into the game before the break and were behind by only a handful of points. In the second half, Clarkson cut the advantage to one point at the 12:38 mark, but Union moved its advantage back to double digits with only 5:25 remaining, 52-40. With a 13-4 run over the next 2:26, Clarkson was back to within three points, but the Dutchmen's clutch foul shooting down the stretch sent the Knights home with a loss.

Vigansky's 22 points were highlighted by six 3-point field goals without a miss, while Russ Vitallo (Dracut, NY) contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds. EJ Harrison (Troy, NY) also added 15 points for the Golden Knights. Clarkson received 61 of its 63 points from the five starters.

Union shot 23-for28 from the foul line while Clarkson made five of its six attempts from the free throw line. John Cagianello scored a game-high 23 for Union, shooting 6-for-13 from the floor but 8-for-8 from the line. Brian Scordato added 12 points, going 6-for-6 from the line, to go along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
