HOBART SHOOTS 61 PERCENT IN 2nd HALF TO DEFEAT KNIGHTS

January 28, 2006

Geneva, NY - With a 14-for-23 performance from the field in the second half, Hobart ended any hope for an upset by the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team as the Golden Knights fell to the Statesmen 73-54 Saturday afternoon at Bristol Gym.

The Golden Knights fell to 4-14 overall and 1-6 on the conference slate while Hobart improved to 8-9 and 4-3 in the Liberty League. Clarkson saw its five-game road trip come to an end and returns home to host Rensselaer and Vassar next weekend.

Clarkson trailed by just four points at the break, 32-28, having held the Statesmen to a modest 9-for-25 from the floor, but Hobart broke out in the second half and shot 61 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes.

A shuffled lineup saw some different faces get starts for Clarkson as Erick Vigansky (Kenosha, WI) recorded double figures for the second straight night, this time as a starter. Vigansky produced a team-high 12 points to go along with 3 steals in 23 minutes of action. Russ Vitallo (Dracut, MA) came off the bench to score 11 points for Clarkson.

John Gazaioli shot 10-for-13 from the field for a game-high 22 points for the Statesmen. Mike Manning added 19 points and Adam Frederic scored 10 points and added six assists for Hobart.
