VASSAR's HOT START SENDS CLARKSON TO LEAGUE LOSS

January 21, 2006

Potsdam, NY - Thanks to six 3-point field goals in the first half, Vassar was able to open a double-digit lead in the opening 20 minutes and then hold on for a 58-45 win over the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights, who fell to 4-11 overall and 1-3 in the Liberty League, return to action on Tuesday when they visit archrival St. Lawrence University. Vassar moved to 8-6 overall, picking up their first win of the conference slate.

Trailing 37-21 at the half, the Golden Knights clawed their way back in to the game by outscoring the Brewers by a slim margin in the second half. However, the comeback was a difficult one as the Knights shot just 1-for-10 from beyond the 3-point line in the second half.

Freshman Ryan Smith (Wilson, NY) shot 5-for-8 from the floor to score a team-high 10 points for Clarkson. Junior EJ Harrison (Troy, NY) and John Chiero (Southington, CT) each chiopped in eight points. Harrison also added in 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

William Kieffer scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Brewers.
