CAYER & TRAYLEN LIFT CLARKSON to OT VICTORY

March 4, 2005

Freshman right wing David Cayer (Longueuil, QUE) scored the lone goal of the contest with 4:17 remaining in overtime to lift the Clarkson University Hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Union College to give the Golden Knights the advantage in their Eastern College Athletic Conference Hockey League (ECACHL) playoff series in Schenectady.

Clarkson (12-20-3) and Union (12-21-2) will play again on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Achilles Center. The Knights can clinch the best-of-three series with a victory. If Union wins on Saturday, the two teams will play the third and deciding game on Sunday.

Cayer picked up the puck just inside the Union zone and snapped off a quick wrist shot from the right circle for his sixth goal of the season.  Defensemen, junior Chris Brekelmans (London, ONT) and sophomore Matt Curley (Madrid, NY) assisted on the goal, which broke a scoreless battle through 75:43 of play.

Junior Dustin Traylen (Kirkland, QUE) backstopped the Green and Gold with 32 saves to post his second straight shutout over the Dutchmen.

Union out shot Clarkson 32-22.  The Knights were 0-of-2 on the power play, while the Dutchmen were 0-of-4 with the man-advantage.
