McKENNA SCORES FIVE GOALS in CLARKSON'S WIN at PLATTSBURGH

Sophomore Mike McKenna (Camden, DE) scored a game-high five goals to lead the Clarkson University Lacrosse team to its second win of the season, a 12-8 non-league victory at SUNY Plattsburgh on Saturday afternoon. Junior Bryan Johnson (Newark, NY) also helped to power the Golden Knights’ offense with a four-goal, two-assist outing.

 

McKenna opened the scoring with a man-up goal off an assist from Johnson at 8:36 of the first period. After the Cardinals tied late it the first, the Knights outscored Plattsburgh 3-1 in the second stanza to take a 4-2 advantage into the half. Clarkson outscored the Cardinals by two again the third frame, 5-3, for a 9-5 lead after 45 minutes. Plattsburgh opened the fourth quarter with two goals to make the score 9-7 with just under 10 minutes to go, but the Green and Gold answered back with three straight scores, two by McKenna and one by Johnson, to go on top 12-7. The Cardinals scored the final goal with 1:22 remaining.

 

Senior Rich Burritt (Oswego, NY) chipped in a goal and two assists for Clarkson, while sophomore defenseman Nick Lavdas (Lafayette, NY) and Jon Cathcart (Homer, NY) added one goal apiece for the Knights.

 

Jordan Thompson and Zack Boyce led the Cardinals with three goals each.

 

Senior Joe Zebrowski (Liverpool, NY) made seven saves as Clarkson outshot Plattsburgh 49-41. The Knights held the edge in groundballs 41-34.

 

At 2-3 overall, Clarkson is scheduled to host cross-town rival Potsdam State this Wednesday, March 30, at 3:30 p.m.
