KNIGHTS SUFFER 5-0 LOSS at THIRD-RANKED CORNELL

The Clarkson University Hockey team suffered a 5-0 loss to third-ranked Cornell in the first game of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Hockey League (ECACHL) quarterfinal series in Ithaca, NY on Friday night. The Golden Knights (13-22-3) and Big Red (23-4-3) will face off on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in the second game of the best-of-three games series at Lynah Rink.
 
Cornell, boasting the best power-play unit and top penalty-kill set in the country, took a 2-0 first period lead on a shorthanded tally and power-play goal. The Big Red made 5-0 after 40 minutes of play with two more power-play goals and another shorthanded marker in the second frame.
 
Cornell, which owns the best defense in the nation, out shot Clarkson 29-20. Junior Dustin Traylen (Kirkland, QUE) started the game in goal for the Knights and posted 19 saves while allowing four goals through 35:18 of play. Sophomore Kyle McNulty (Wakefield, RI) played the final 24:42 in the Clarkson goal and made five stops on six shots.
 
Clarkson was 0-of-6 on the power play, while Cornell was 3-of-9 with the man advantage.
