CLARKSON SUFFERS FIRST SHUTOUT

February 18, 2005

Ninth-ranked Harvard University handed the Clarkson University Hockey team its first shutout of the season, blanking the Golden Knights 5-0 at Bright Hockey Center on Friday night. Clarkson, which lost its second straight game, falls to 11-18-2 overall and to 7-11-1 in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Hockey League (ECACHL). The Knights, who stand in eighth place in the league, play at Brown on Saturday before closing out the regular season hosting Colgate and Cornell at Cheel Arena next weekend.

Harvard snapped a seven-game winless stretch (0-5-2) against Clarkson in Cambridge with their first win over the Green and Gold on their home ice since the 1996-97 campaign. The Crimson opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal at 17:45 of the first and cruised in the second period, scoring three more times, including twice on the power play. With 2:47 left in the third, Harvard made it 5-0.

The Crimson out shot the Knights 42-28. Junior Dustin Traylen (Kirkland, QUE), despite allowing five goals, was strong in the Clarkson goal with 37 saves, including 29 through the first 40 minutes.

Clarkson was 0-of-6 on the power play, while Harvard (16-7-2, 13-4-1) scored twice in five man-advantage opportunities.
