CLARKSON PLAYS 2nd- RANKED DARTMOUTH CLOSE

January 14, 2005

The Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team put in a respectable showing against nationally-ranked Dartmouth College on Friday at Thompson Arena in Hanover, NH, but came up short in its bid to upset the second-ranked Big Green, falling 5-2.

The Golden Knights, who stand at 6-9-5 overall and 2-6-1 in Eastern College Athletic Conference Hockey League (ECACHL), will look to break out of a five-game winless (0-4-1) skid when they play at the University of Vermont on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

Dartmouth, which enter Friday’s game on a four-game win streak during which it outscored its opponents 35-6, wasted little time against the Knights in finding the back of the net. The Big Green tallied just seven seconds after the opening faceoff, and made it 2-0 at 13:26.

Clarkson regroup during the first intermission and came out strong to start the second. Sophomore Emma Madigan (Mississauga, ONT) put the Green and Gold on the scoreboard with her second goal of the season 56 into the middle frame with captain Lindsay Williams (Mississauga, ONT) and freshman Amanda Dittmer (Chatham, ONT assisting. The Knights connected again to tie the score as freshman Brooke Beazer (Kingston, ONT) tallied on the power play for her fifth goal of the year off an assist from classmate Meghan Park (Petrolia, ONT) at 7:24.

Just over a minute later, however, Dartmouth regained the lead with its own power-play marker. The Big Green scored again with the man advantage at 13:26 and closed out the scoring with their fifth goal with 32 seconds left in the second.

Dartmouth out shot Clarkson 33-27. Sophomore Kira McDonald (Pickering, ONT) started in the Knights' goal and made nine saves on 12 shots through 28:28 of play. Classmate Stephanie Hansen (Calgary, ALB) came on in relief and posted 19 stops while allowing two goals through the final 31:22. Clarkson was 1-of-6 on the power, while the Big Green were 2-of-5.
