DUDEK SHOWS PROMISE OFF BENCH, BUT KNIGHTS LOSE TO PLATTSBURGH

December 7, 2005

Potsdam, NY – Anthony Williams shot 8-for-9 from the free throw line and finished with a game-high 22 points as Plattsburgh State defeated the Clarkson University Men’s Basketball team 72-51 Wednesday night in a non-league game at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights finished the first semester with a record of 2-5 and will return to action at the end of December when they play in the LeMoyne Holiday Tournament. The Cardinals improved to 4-2 on the season.

Leading narrowly 15-12 with 12:30 left in the first half, the Cardinals took advantage of Clarkson’s foul trouble with numerous inside plays that provided a 16-3 run over an eight-minute span to take a commanding lead. Clarkson battled back to drop the Cardinals lead to 12 points at the half, 36-24, with a late 7-3 run.

Williams scored nine points in the first half to lead the Cardinals as Plattsburgh shot 57 percent from the floor (12-for-21). Despite nine offensive rebounds, the Golden Knights could not put more points on the board in the opening 20 minutes, shooting just 9-for-28 from the field.

The second half opened with a 12-0 run that extended Plattsburgh’s lead to 48-24. Clarkson finally got on the board in the second half with a free throw from Erick Vigansky (Kenosha, WI) at the 13:57 mark in the second half. The Knights climbed back into the game and cut the lead to 13 points after a jumper from Ben Dudek (North Chili, NY) at the 9:12 mark, but the Cardinals returned their lead to 20 points just two minutes later and held on for the win.

Though the Cardinals hot shooting cooled in the second half, the team still went 11-for-24 while Clarkson repeated its 9-for-28 performance in the final 20 minutes. Brian Hatch and Antwane Miller each reached double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Clarkson’s EJ Harrison (Troy, NY) led the Knights with 10 points while freshman Dudek came off the bench with 10 points on 4-for-9 shooting for the Golden Knights. John Chiero (Southington, CT) also played well, grabbing 10 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end.
