Potsdam, NY - Senior Dan Fellegara (Fairport, NY) scored at the 12:25 mark in the first half to start an offensive barrage that saw the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team come away with a 3-2 win over RIT Saturday afternoon at Clarkson Field.
The Golden Knights improved to 2-5 on the season while RIT lost its second straight to move to 4-2 this year.
Fellegara started the scoring when he dribbled past the Tigers defense and chipped a shot off the left post to end Clarkson's scoring drought at 464:07, spanning five full games. The Golden Knights came through again 16 minutes later when Mark Stowe (Churchville, NY) scored on a similar play, with assists coming from Ismael Mohammad (Rochester, NY) and Michael D'Amico (Fairport, NY). Clarkson was out shot 5-2 in the first half, but scored on both chances.
In the second half, Steve Battisti (Brockport, NY) made the score 3-0 at the 48:31 mark with a hard shot from 12 yards out. Jason Mayerhofer (West Babylon, NY) picked up his second assist of the game on the goal.
The Tigers came back with two goals in a five minute span with Phil Galluzzo drilling home a shot from 30 yards out. Galluzzo set up the Tigers' second goal when he served a corner kick into the box which George Chavez headed in to cut the lead to a single score.
RIT out shot the Golden Knights 11-5 and held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. Nate Andrews made two saves for the Tigers, while sophomore David Hennessey (Wading River, NY) recorded his second win of the season with seven saves.
