Potsdam, NY – Behind another stingy defensive effort and a four-goal outing by senior Matt Owen (New Philadelphia, OH), the Clarkson University Lacrosse team secured a berth in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) playoffs with a 10-2 win over Skidmore College at Hantz Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Knights, who have won two of their last three games, finished the regular season with a 6-7 overall record and a fourth-place 3-3 mark in the UCAA. Clarkson will play regular season champion St. Lawrence in the first round of the conference tournament on Friday, May 7 in Canton, NY.
The Knights dominated throughout Saturday’s game against Skidmore, out shooting the Thoroughbreds 45-11 and controlling groundballs 45-24. Clarkson’s defense allowed just five shots on goal.
The Green and Gold jumped out to a 3-0 lead and led 6-1 at the half. The Knights scored three more in the third for a 9-1 advantage after 45 minutes.
Owens (4-1) and classmate Jim Lavelle (Hamburg, NY) (0-5) contributed five points each in their final regular season game at Clarkson. Four other Golden Knight seniors contributed the rest of the scoring for Clarkson. Sean Pearce (Auburn, NY) tallied two goals and two assists, while Ryan Bodkin (East Amherst, NY) chipped in two goals. Patrick Ryan (Canton, NY) and Dan Amedro (Camillus, NY) scored one goal apiece.
Junior Joe Zebrowski (Liverpool, NY) faced just two shots, making one save through 48 minutes of play in the Clarkson goal. Senior Brian Pratt (Randolph, NJ) stopped two of the three shots he face over the final 12 minutes for the Knights.
