KNIGHTS FALL to CORNELL, FINISH 9th

Ithaca, NY -The Clarkson University Hockey team ‘s late season bid to secure home ice in the first round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) playoffs came up just short as the Golden Knights lost at defending league champion Cornell 2-1 at Lynah Rink in Ithaca on Saturday night. Clarkson, which shutout Colgate 1-0 on Friday, finishes in ninth place in the standings with a 8-12-2 ECAC mark. The Knights, who own a 13-16-5 overall record, will play at Union in the first round of the playoffs next weekend in Schenectady, NY in the best-of-three-game series.
 
Cornell jumped out on top against Clarkson with a first-period power-play goal, but the Knights battled back midway through the second period to tie the game. Freshman defenseman Nathan Beausoleil (Moose Creek, ONT) scored his first collegiate goal on a shot from the point that deflected in off a Cornell defender in front for a power-play goal at 12:52.
 
The Big Red gained the victory with a power-play score at 11:43 of the third.
 
Cornell out shot Clarkson 31-21. Sophomore Dustin Tarylen (Kirkland, QUE), coming off a 35-save effort in the shutout over Colgate, turned aside 29 shots against the Big Red. The Knights were 1-of-5 on the power play, while Cornell was 2-of-5 with the man advantage.
