WILLIAM SMITH SHOOTS 9-for-11 FROM THREE TO DOWN KNIGHTS

Potsdam, NY – Ashley Rodger scored a game-high 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds as William Smith downed the Clarkson University Women’s Basketball team 72-38 in an Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) game Friday night at Clarkson’s Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights fell to 7-17 overall and 2-11 in the UCAA, while William Smith went to 13-10 overall and 8-5 in the conference.

The Golden Knights enjoyed a 5-2 advantage in the first three minutes, but the Herons went on a 13-2 run over the next six and a half minutes to take a double-digit advantage, which they would enjoy for the majority of the final 10 minutes. William Smith shot 14-for-26 from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, led by Ashley Rodger, who scored 10 points on 4-for-7 shooting. Sarah Wesner (Sidney, NY) led the Golden Knights with 11 points, shooting 4-for-6 from the floor, and grabbed five rebounds, all on the offensive end.

After trading baskets to open the half, William Smith went on a 14-0 run over the next five minutes to take a commanding 52-20 run. They would hold a 30-point lead for the rest of the game, ending with a 72-38 advantage. The Herons had 19 assists on 28 made field goals and shot 9-for-11 from beyond the 3-point arc.

Ivy Parker added 14 points for William Smith while Pria Young shot 4-for-5 from the floor for 11 points.

Wesner finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and five steals for the Golden Knights. Bridget Sweeney (Corning, NY) added nine points and three steals, while Linda Fernandez (Kennebunkport, ME) scored eight points and had five rebounds.

The Golden Knights close out the regular season when they host Hamilton College at 2:00 pm on Saturday afternoon.
