CARDINALS USE DEPTH TO DOWN KNIGHTS

Plattsburgh, NY – Sophomore guard EJ Harrison (Troy, NY) scored 14 points, shooting 5-for-7 from the floor, and dished out three assists but the Clarkson University Men’s Basketball team dropped a 90-65 non-league decision to Plattsburgh State Tuesday afternoon at Memorial Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights dropped to 1-2 overall while Plattsburgh State moves to 2-1 on the season. Clarkson returns to action this weekend when they play in the Rochester Thanksgiving Invitational.

With the game tied 19-19 midway through the first half, the Cardinals went on a 20-6 run over a seven-minute span to take a double-digit lead. Clarkson cut the Plattsburgh advantage to eight at 42-34 in the final minute of the half.

Clarkson kept the advantage in the low double digits for most of the second half and were still in striking distance at the 6:39 mark, trailing 68-58. However, the Cardinals went on another run and ended the game with a 22-7 streak.

Jon Youngmann (Corinth, NY) scored 13 points and added a team-high six rebounds for the Golden Knights. Freshman Kevin Bolduc (Auburn, NH) produced 10 points, shooting a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

Kris Gibbs-Smith led five players in double figures for the Cardinals, scoring 15 points on 6-for-11 shooting. Johnnie Carter, Jelani Simmons, and James Corless each added 13 points for Plattsburgh State.

Plattsburgh State shot 55.2 percent from the floor for the game, including a scoring 62.1 percent in the second half. Clarkson struggled in the first half, shooting 10-for-28 from the floor, but recovered to shoot 55 percent in the second half. The Golden Knights turned the ball over 22 times, but forced 16 by Plattsburgh.
