FERNANDEZ RECORDS 200th CAREER STEAL IN LOSS TO HERONS

Geneva, NY - Junior point guard Linda Fernandez (Kennebunkport, ME) recorded her 200th career steals and added nine points and nine rebounds, but the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team fell to William Smith 51-40 in an Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) league contest Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights fell to 7-11 overall and 2-5 in the UCAA with the loss while William Smith improves to 9-8 overall and 4-3 in the league.

Fernandez recorded her 200th career steal with the first of the game and added two more to end the 18th game of the season with 202. Clarkson's career steal record is held by Mary Sliva who had 237 steals in 1985-89.

Senior guard Bridget Sweeney (Corning, NY) scored a team-high 12 points to move into 19th place all-time in scoring at Clarkson.

Ashley Rodger scored 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Herons, while Anne Hellebush recorded 15 points and seven boards. The Herons trailed by a point at the half, but outlasted Clarkson with a 29-17 run over the final 20 minutes.

The Golden Knights end the UCAA away schedule next weekend when they visit Rensselaer and Vassar on Friday and Saturday.
