Potsdam, NY - Clarkson snapped a four-game losing streak to Cornell on Friday night, battling to a 2-2 overtime tie against the Big Red before 2,677 fans at Cheel Arena in a game broadcasted live by Time Warner Cable throughout the North Country and in the greater Syracuse region.

In a defensive first period, Clarkson (4-2-3, 1-1-1) took the lead when senior co-captain Tristan Lush (North Andover, MA) skated behind the net out to the left circle where he fired a shot that deflected in front off a Cornell defenseman’s skate and past a surprised Big Red goaltender David Mckee  at 9:53.

Cornell tied the contest early in the second frame on Cam Abbott’s first goal of the year at 8:44. Position in front of the Clarkson goal, Abbott deflected in a shot by Greg Hornby from the top of the right circle.

Hard work by the Knight’s fourth line put Clarkson back on top just under three minutes later. Sophomore John Sullivan (Bedford, NH) battled through a check at the top of the crease and knocked in a rebound off of junior Lyon Porter’s (Shaker Heights, OH) shot for his first goal of the season at 11:33.

The Big Red (2-1-2, 2-0-1 ECAC) evened the score at 8:33 of the final stanza. Chris Abbott  started the play when he stripped a Clarkson defender of the puck at the blueline and fed a pass to his brother Cam, who fired a shot on goal. Golden Knights’ sophomore goaltender Dustin Traylen (Kirkland, QUE) made the save but fell out of position and Greg Hornby was able to scored into an empty net for his first goal of the season.

Cornell outshot Clarkson 30-28. Traylen posted 28 saves for the Knights, while McKee made 26 stops for the Big Red. Clarkson was 0-of-5 on the power play, including the only man-advantage situation in overtime. Cornell was 0-of-3 on the power play.

Clarkson hosts Colgate on Saturday, while Cornell travles to St. Lawrence. The Saints defeated Raiders 5-1 on Friday.
