Potsdam, NY – Junior right wing Chris Blight (Cambridge, MA) scored one goal and two assists as Clarkson University snapped a seven-game losing streak against Colorado College by tying the Tigers 4-4 in overtime in non-conference action Saturday night before 2,914 fans at Cheel Arena. The Golden Knights, who have never beaten Colorado College, scored twice midway through the third period to take a 4-3 lead before the Tigers' Marty Sertich tied the game with 2:41 left in regulation. Clarkson stands at 1-1-2 on the season, while 10th-ranked Colorado College remains unbeaten at 3-0-1.
Colorado jumped out on top at 12:53 of the first as Aaron Slattengren finished off a pass play from linemate Scott Polaski and Richard Petiot for his team-high fourth goal of the year. Just over three minutes later, Clarkson came back to tie when Blight stripped a Tiger defender of the puck at center ice and raced in for a breakaway, lifting in a backhand shot for an unassisted shorthanded goal at 16:12.
The Tigers regained the lead at 8:47 of the second period on Polaski’s unassisted goal. Polaski, who tallied the game winner in Friday’s 3-2 win, picked up a loose puck at the right circle and wristed in a high shot for his third goal of the season. The Knights came back again to tie when junior Mac Faulkner (King City, ONT) deflected in front a shot from the point by junior defenseman Ken Scuderi (Bethpage, HY) six seconds after a Clarkson power play ended. Blight gained his second point of the game with an assist.
Colorado went on top 3-2 to start the third with Lee Sweatt’s second goal of the season as both teams were skating four aside at 8:11. The Knights rallied back with a pair of goals 3:14 apart. Freshman defenseman Matt Nickerson (Old Lyme, CT) tallied his second power-play goal of the weekend at 9:28 to tie the game 3-3. Freshman Mike Sullivan (Stouffville, ONT) finished off a perfect cross-crease pass from Blight at 9:28 for his first collegiate goal to put the Knights on top 4-3 before Sertich evened the score for the Tigers.
Colorado outshot Clarkson 41-33. Sophomore Dustin Traylen (Kirkland, QUE) made 37 saves for the Knights, including 16 in the third period. Curtis McElhinney finished with 29 stops. Clarkson was 1-of-6 on the power play, while Colorado was 0-of-6 with the man-advantage.
