KNIGHTS GO UNDEFEATED to START the SEASON

October 18, 2003

BEMIDJI, MN - Clarkson completed its season-opening weekend series in Minnesota by gaining a 1-1 overtime tie against CHA preseason favorite Bemidji State at the John Glas Fieldhouse on Saturday. On Friday, the Golden Knights rallied for a come-from-behind 4-2 victory over the Beavers.

Clarkson, off to its best start since the 1999-2000 campaign, returns to Potsdam to open a nine-game home stand at Cheel Arena next weekend by hosting national powerhouse Colorado College in a two-game series.

Coming off a career-best 40-save effort in Friday’s victory, sophomore Dustin Traylen (Kirkland, QUE), was up to the task again on Saturday turning aside 38 of 39 BSU shots. The Knights, who had 26 shots on goal, were 1-of-7 on the power play, while the Beavers were 0-of-5 with the man-advantage.

“I thought we competed much harder tonight,” stated Clarkson head coach George Roll. “Again Dustin was outstanding. It certainly was tough to lose the win at the end after having the lead, but I am very proud of our effort. To come away from here, a tough building against a tough foe where a lot of good teams have lost, with three of four points gives us a lot to build upon.”

The Knights took a 1-0 lead at 12:50 of the second period on junior Mac Faulkner’s (King City, ONT) second power-play goal of the weekend. Faulkner tallied in front after taking a pass from senior co-captain Tristan Lush (North Andover, MA), his third assist of the season. Freshman defenseman Jamie McKinven (Kingston, ONT) also assisted. Clarkson was denied the weekend sweep, however, when the Beavers tie the contest with just 1:39 left in regulation.
